"Twelve years after The Great War's end no one seems to be content with new world order which emerged after war. Even if first world conflict took away millions of lives and most of its winners gained little to nothing, everyone is preparing to settle differences with their mortal enemies again. Some of them are driven by ambition and desire of conquest. Others are fighting to reunite their nations which collapsed due to disastrous course of Great War. Be it ambition or greed, nationality or ideology, no one can consider himself safe in this world where hostilitiy and aggression amongst all the nations are more common than cordiality and understanding. None is willing to give up, and thus world is moving towards another world conflict. Once mighty United States are desperately trying to preserve unity after its horribly executed intervention in Europe. Despite being formally victorious Third Republic of France remains severly broken. Garrisons and artillery positions at both sides of Elbe are mobilized all the time, ready to roll when second Bruderkrieg will start. Communist reformation engages in internally weak Soviet Union. Tension between Komintern and Socintern is growing. Japanese diplomacy works hard to save other Asian states from rising communist and radical influence in Asia. Finally, despite a few crucial blows British Empire is coming back from the edge, desperatly chasing its main enemy, only true victor of The Great War - Kingdom of Italy, which successfully spreads its influence around Mediterranean Sea...

The year is 1932. Welcome to Il Risorgimento."

    Il Risorgimento?

Il Risorgimento indeed. I know that it feels somewhat strange, maybe surprising, some of you might be like "oh, but Italy couldn't..." and trust me I don't care about it that much. Despite being "Italian" mod, same as Kaiserreich is..."Kaiserreich" mod, all other guys around are really worth playing too. In fact Italy isn't even the richest (in terms of IC) country. Countless possibilites and pre-war story (as you can guess by looking at the map Italy suceeded indeed) are what makes Italy #1. Contrary to other major powers it has little to none internal problems, which surely gives Italy an upper hand. However, other major powers will join Italy sooner or later to start another party here or there, either with or against Italy. So just please keep in mind that Italia is "featured" country, not unrealistically insta-OTL Reich with magical powers out of nowhere. Obviously our Italy is much stronger than historical one, but not strong enough to smash everyone. It takes some build-up to do it. All other countries are (will be) certainly worth playing. So no worries everyone.

    Anti-Alternative Mod?

And now we are finally at the point - what does that "Anti-Alternative" mean? Well, that's my word again. An intriguing one. Poetique. Anyway, by Anti-Alternative I mean that it's neither perfectly plausible nor even have detailed timeline. A large number of mods died like that, because of fighting over some bullcrap (that's what happened last summer as well). You see, as far as I'm concerned, we are playing MODS not TIMELINES. If ya want SHINY NICE DETAILED HISTORY BOOK go to Zokan's thread and read TBL's timeline or write an AAR. After all we all want to play the game, right? To sum up: things are not terribly plausible, yet somewhat-somewhat realistic-acceptable-barely-but-still. I want game to be fun, not timeline to be exact history book. There are some main events in past of course, but not THAT much...you get my drift, aye? I will go through all aspects in-depth in next posts, notably #2.

In future, once considerable amount of stuff will be done, we'll most likely cover whole history and characteristics of important countries via dev diary-type thing. It is simply that now there are dozens of other things much more important than nice descriptions.

So, in general, could you shortly describe what's all that mod about?

As you might see below a mod's startdate is 19...32. Oou, why so early? No modern units for you? But you wanted nukes you say? Oh :( Don't worry, it's a part of our plan. Some of the countries (France, Soviets) are having hard time dealing with internal madness, and might join the kriegsparty later on to achieve their own goals or take revenge or both. In other words: we hope that Risorgimento will feature both WW2 and potential WW3, depending on the outcomes. While WW2 might have a classy feeling of 20s-30s (we'll try to make sure you'll have enough units to play with thou), WW3 is intented to be usual hi-tech clash with rockets, a-bombs and all the crazy madness Darkest Hour offers!

Anyway, speaking of 1932 in general (you could guess most of it from the intro)...

*In France, general elections of 1932 are a few months ahead. New monarchist and technocratic groups are on rise, ready to win at all cost. May Picqueray and Henri Astier d'Vigier are fighting each other all over the France with their paramilitary groups.
*Elections are also ahead in United Kingdom, in 1933. Lloyd George's liberal reforms saved Empire, but now it's time to take all misguided parts of it back - Winston Churchill's Conservatives are gaining more and more support by supporting remilitarization and restoration of Empire.
*New United Socialist Spanish Federation has been formed just three years ago. Despite being "socialist", federation is not that oppressive and somewhat succesful, preventing fall of Spain and even leading to economical growth.
*Duca del Mare's government finally brought Italy back on track, making it dangerous yet again. First two carriers had been commisioned last year and are being developed in Venezia and Napoli. Refreshed Italian military HQ develops brand new tactics using fair amounts of light tanks and cavalry. No one in Mediterranean Sea can consider himself safe enough from Italian threat.
*Tensions along the Elbe between German Communist Union and Prussian State are rising higher and higher, slowly leading to unevitable clash.
*Fierce rivalry of Komintern and Socintern reaches the zenith. While German and Hungarian communists are developing plan of their World Revolution, Comrade Chernov unites new, prosperous Soviet Union.
*Commonwealth of Three Nations and Finnic Federative Republic are continuously modernizing and industrializing their nations, becoming (along with Spain) new Tigers of Europe.
*Victorious Greek Kingdom with all "Megali's" lands under its control is preparing to face its fierce enemies, including radical Turkish state and Bulgarians.
*Chiang-Kai Shek slowly regains his influence in southern China after disastrous course of Northern Expedition. All the other Chinese cliques and governments are preparing to final fight for united China too.
*Japanese version of "Monroe Doctrine" designated for Asia shapes itself, preventing potential aggressors from threatening former and autonomous states in Asia.
*Recent fascist outbreaks in Australia and India are most dangerous for Japanese policy of balance.
*Crisis in broken United States devastated during WW I approaches its final climax.

Italia in 1932 is composed of its mainland of course, but also Syria, Liban, cities of Spalato (Split) and Dubrovnik (Raguza). Vittorio's son - Umberto - is known as King Dmitar Zvonimir II of Croatia.

    Mod Status:

Current version: Il Risorgimento Alpha 03: Paradox Forum Announcement DLC

Yes, it is a super-heavy, certainly unplayable Alpha. Maybe I should rather name it Dev-Build? Who knows. For now you can pretty much just look at it and some events done at this point. Main goal of posting it now is to let people know what's up and show them what we're working on and what needs to be researched. Don't expect it to be playable until World War 2 DLC and transition into beta! Expect a lot of versions there, we're literally building database from a scratch.

It will take enormous amount of work, but I hope that in next month or two we'll have playable beta up and running. As for now, there are some events for Italy (Abissynia and Albania), so you might want to check them out ;)

Next version: Il Risorgimento Alpha 04: French Civil War DLC

    Download:

Il Risorgimento Alpha 03: Paradox Forum Announcement DLC

For further information, explanations, timeline, FAQ etc. please head to our thread on Paradox Interactive Forum. I really don't want to paste everything (and that's A LOT) here.

Also, I almost forgot - some screenshots can be found here.

What do you want from us, Ragazzi of Italia?

At first I simply thought that you might be interested in mod, where Italia is "protagonisti primaria" or however ^_AC_^ called it :D. As you can guess I don't know any Italian words except of ragazzi, calcio and Serie A :D And that leads me to another point - since Italy is our "featured" country and I'm working on it, I want it to be detalied as crazy. However as you might guess there's no chance for me to understand Italian sources, I can rely only on English ones. Since you know history of your country much better than me (wow you don't say Miura guy) your aid might be, oh crucial in making this country truly awesome.

Italian government. You can read more about Vittorio Orlando government's collapse in 1925 on Paradox Forum in post #2 (might paste it here too). So, since 1925 Italia is guided by its war hero #1 in our story, Duca del Mare. You might see that there are quite a few "older" (with all respect) ministers. Don't worry - replacing them, along with picking a new course of development for all types of Italian Armed Forces (which is, in this mod army, airforce, navy and colonial forces). For example, Luigi Amedeo di Savoia dies somewhere in 1933. That's when you will decide what's Regia Marina future for example - either old way of battleships or revolutionary and expensive carrier fleet. As time passes you'll replace more and more ministers. Paolo Thaon di Revel retires around 1936/1937, when you'll have to pick new leader of Italia.

    There's no Mussolini. I don't want him. Pretend he doesn't exists. ;)

One might also ask, what's the plan for Italian expansion? Surely Mare Nostrum is the main theme. As for now, I have a very alpha version of Guerra Timelino Italiano :D

*Spring 1932 - Abissynian War, with first little Italian light tanks and short range bombers
*Autumn/Winter 1932 - During Civil War in France Italia will be busy. There's a risky option to seize Madagascar (thou it might be really risky). Expect of that Djibuti is vulnerable as well. In Europe there's option of seizing former Duchy of Savoy's land (Nice and Chambery) and Corsica. As for Maghreb, a Free France forms there - light (more likely to happen) varrant involves acquisition of Tunisia from French military government in Africa. One can go all the way against French (Operation Torzia, see the reference?), but yeah, it's again super risky (UK is watching)
*Spring 1933 - Annexation of Albania, either via enforced "plebiscite" manipulated by Rome or Tirana's bombarding.
*1934 - intervention in Serbian-Hungarian war. Since both countries are communist, but are parts of separate communist groups (Socintern in Serbia vs Komintern in Hungary) conflict is unevitable.
*1935 - dealing with independent Egypt, ultimatum demanding military bases and factual control over Egypt. Here is also when you'll almost surely face United Kingdom, probably fully ready to fight at this point. Main UK's ally in area - Greece - will be a threat too. Here is where Mediterranean ignites into full-scale war, a.k.a Italian Climax No 1.
*1936/1937 - communists meddling in Austria and leading to communist version of anschluss - Austria joining German Communist Union. Since Austria is factual Italian puppet, you might defend it and start war earlier. Soon after Austria Czechoslovakia will be under heavy communist pressure from Germany and Hungary. Here is the last chance for Italy to react and supress Communism. Italian Climax No 2.

And now you see, I need every kind of aid. I will need countless data over time, of course I'd consider every propisition to improve Italy. If you have any ideas for other states go on, thou you can also do it on Paradox. My main goal behind posting thread here is to get serious feedback on Italy mostly. So, if you don't mind, I'll have some questions from time to time, and then, if you guys around have some time, you'll go check your old Italian historic books and tell me what's up. ;) As for now, I really have only two major requests for you guys:

1.) Italian OoB in scenario - I've based it on Italy's 1933 OoB in Darkest Hour Full and "spiced" it up with some more ships and divisions. Now, I'd simply need someone to check units names. Italian with its del, della, etc. is similar to French, it's that I don't know which words are feminine, masculine, etc. A general grammar check ;)

2.) Also, I want Italia to have a fair amount of aircraft carriers. Wikipedia ain't say much about that, but I managed to found that guy - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giuseppe_Fioravanzo . Wiki provides some basic info of course, but I need some more details about that guy and his friends mentioned in article. There's much more on Italian page, but I can't understand it in general. Also if you can provide me some ideas and facts about proposed courses of Italian army development (like here carrier vs battleship focus in navy), people connected to it, etc. I really want developing Italian Armed Forces via events and decisions as detailed and as awesome as possible. Also a word or two on potential elite units would be awesome.

I would be extremely grateful for all kinds of informations. When sending it via forum or private messages ain't comfortable you can send me anything useful at anjinmiura666@gmail.com . Also I have Skype so if you wanna parle inglesi about things, let me know ;)

So, that's it for now. Hopefully if English is a problem one of you ragazzi multilinguale (^_AC_^ I'm looking at you) will come and help out. The same AC told me that admins see nothing wrong with English threads...I can only hope so ;)

    Sincerely,
    Anjin Miura (Ober)

Wow! This mod seems very interesting, I'll try it for sure. Unfortunately I'm not the right person to help you, but I'm sure someone with more knowledge will arrive here. (Sorry if there's some mistake, I'm working on it ;))

This is a nice project, i have only 2 questions:

    1) How did the commie Germany form?
    2) Will this be available also for HoI3?

    Now, about the requests:

OOB: I have not a great knowledge of the Italian Army, but i think that you should post a screen of the OOB to allow us to see the work done up to date.

Navy: Ok, first things first, in the WWI Italy never fought major naval battles, despite having some BBs available. Instead, the Regia Marina relied on the MAS (Motoscafo Armato Silurante, italian for Armed Torpedo Boat) to raid the Austrian ports in Dalmatia and Istria.
The most notable action was made near Premuda, where the MAS 15 firing its torpedoes from point blank range sunk the BB Szent Istvàn (Saint Stephen) without receiving any damage by the Escorts (8 to 10 DDs) in a stealth action.
Other applications of the MAS also were ASW and patrol duty.

The Regia Marina developed also a Manned Torpedo which achieved some success (Sinking of the Viribus Unitis) and could be considered a sort of SSX (Midget Sub) altough it didn't have the required tonnage (175 tons vs the 150 max of SSXs).

Between the two wars the focus of the Regia Marina was mainly on Subs (There were more than 100 SS operating), especially low-tonnage ones (around 60 were under 600 tons) because of the naval convention signed with Uk and France.
Surface fleet focus was on BBs, CAs and DDs. Afaik the CLs and BCs were almost completely disregarded. Only a few (10) CLs were operating in WW2, and no BCs.
Italian BBs however had a limit: their autonomy (especially that of the Littorio Class) was very short: 4000 miles at 20 nodes.

Nothing was spent on CVs or research of CVs, since Mussolini decided so in 1925, focusing on Land-Based aviation.

Note: I haven't HoI2 DH, so i dunno what ships are available, however, a much more powerful Italy, which enjoyed complete success in WW1 should have in 1933:

    20-25 TBs
    20 SS flotillas
    30-35 DD flotillas
    4 CLs (obsolete)
    10 CAs
    8 BBs
    1 CVL
    1 CV

    Provided you want CVs. Techs:

    TBs: UTD
    SS: UTD
    DD: UTD
    CL: 1918
    CA: UTD
    BC: NO
BB: UTD, Engines 1918 and whatever shortens range.
    CV: ?

Also if there are midget subs make them researchable for Italy and set AI to do so.

NOTE: About storicity, add dalmatia to Italy and give cores. A completely winning Italy should have taken everything from Pola to Dubrovnik (Ragusa, please rename it) and not give that to a Croatian puppet, as it was claimed at Italia Irredenta in 1918.

    @Mac Brian

    Nah, it's absolutely fine ;)

    TheDOC

Told'ya everything on Skype, but just for the sake of being clear:

1.) Well, revolution took Germany and split it in half. All the explanations are on Paradox ;)
2.) Hell naw, I don't even have it and I don't think I even would like to, at least at this point.

And now to the rest of it ;)

*Midget subs might be fun, will think about them as new units for Italy. As for manned torpedoes, about that X MAS guys, I want to make them usable via events. Finance them well and they'll wreck some havoc to enemies on sea.

*I'll adjust Regia Marina to that numbers and post all the screens a bit later. Have some work to do.

*Yep, it has Spalato and Ragusa in game so it's not a problem ;)

Thanks for both replies so far, waiting for more ;)

Yes As far as I remembered Fioravanzo advocated the creation of a Naval aviation supporting an indipendent Aviation but all meetings summoned reached the same conclusion, i.e. carriers were pointless when Italy was a "natural carrier" itself.
Now, I am in Milan and therefore I don't have at disposal Giorgio Giorgerini's book "La guerra Italiana sul mare.La marina tra vittoria e sconfitta 1940-1943" ("Italian naval warfare. The Regia Marina between victory and defeat 1940-1943") where there are countless infos about Italian Navy.
I suggest you to ask to someone in the forum as I am not going to be able to read it before mid-July and since it is "the Bible" of Italian Navy, he is likely to be the best historian in this field in the world (though in English you can find John Sadkovich whose books aren't bad at all).

Ah, Milan. Tiziano Crudelli. I never understand what he says, but I asumme he's the best Italian commentator ever.
    Anyway!

Melkor89 on Paradox Forum (maybe he's here too?) posted a lot of good stuff concerning Italian army and navy here, and here and down that page too. Y'all might want to check it and verify/add something, but these post were superiore helpful.

Now I'm thinking about events for East Africa - once Italy wins in Ethiopia, stuff might happen. A new federation of locals guided by Italian governor? First attempts to westernize that part of Africa? Stuff like that. If you have anything interesting on East Africa stuff, feel free to post it guys ;)
